Alicante. City of The Sun

The Alicante’s capital city is well known for its extraordinary Mediterranean climate, quality of life, beaches (El Postiguet and playa de San Juan) and its rich gastronomy (we’ll talk about this in future posts). Moreover, has an important archaeological site, museums such as the Marq and, one of the largest Spanish medieval fortresses: The Castle of Santa Barbara.

Plan your escape to Alicante:

Alicante has enough charms to conquer you, spending a full weekend knowing the corners and enjoying its beaches. Walking along the Esplanada and visiting monuments and museums, you have a lot to see and discover in Alicante city.

For Nature lovers, there is an interesting excursion to see the flamingos in the salt flats in Santa Pola and, the Hondó.  It’s also highly recommended to visit the fascinating island of Tabarca by boat from Alicante’s harbour. Tabarca was known in the past as a refugee of pirates like Red Beard.  In Tabarca you can spend a day diving in the protected marine reserve.

If you are interested on half-day excursions a nearby option is to visit Xixona, a famous place for its nougats.
